 about

I was born and grew up in Mexico, the Heroic City of Cárdenas, Tabasco, the official name of my home town., when I was two we moved to the city of Montemorelos, NL where we live until I was ten, then back to my hometown and later when I was 18 moved to live in Mérida, Yucatán, birth place of my parents, where to the date my family lives, I’m the oldest of five, I have one brother Juan Ignacio a Mechanic Engineer and three sisters, Ana Margarita, Sara Noemi y Gricelda Leticia, all teachers. It was during this time I discovered my roots, Mayan from my father, Carlos A Durán Basto and Korean, from my mother Domitila Cong Diaz.

The Mayan culture has influence not only in my artwork but also shaped my personal life, I toured many cities; Olmec, Mayan and other cultures that populate my country Mexico, read for the first time the Popol Vuh book sacred of the Mayans, and studied the Maya Culture.

During this time I discovered Palenque, a city of the Chiapas State, Pakal’s Temple, “Palenque’s Lord”, his work and his life fascinates me, it has served me as inspiration for my art work entitled "The gods of the underworld"

My work reflects not only my religious and spiritual concepts, but especially the nature of human beings in all its expressions, I use my art to establish a dialogue with the public, a new line of thinking and communication that allows you to find the reflection of your inner self.

My art work is a mirror of the human condition, in all its forms and expressions, the constant struggle of our other self, on the pursuit of our own identity and thus finding the reflection of the our self’s, which is the essence of human creativity.

Art is a mirrow of the human condition.

Arte es el espejo de la condicion humana
